Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, has expressed confidence that Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, will contest and win the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Oyintiloye’s remarks come amid speculation that Oyetola, who served as governor from November 27, 2018, to November 26, 2022, and lost to Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party in the July 17, 2022, election, is not interested in seeking the APC nomination for 2026.
In a statement released in Osogbo on Wednesday, Oyintiloye emphasized that Oyetola deserves the right of first refusal for the APC ticket, noting that there are no indications he would decline the opportunity to run. He stated that Oyetola is committed to ending the current PDP administration and has begun consulting with key stakeholders to assess the strengths and challenges of the APC across local government areas.
“This strategic framework will guide our vision and goals as a party. We are prepared to reclaim power from the PDP in 2026, and the people are eager to see this happen,” he said.
Oyintiloye insisted that Oyetola remains the best candidate for the APC, highlighting his previous tenure, which saw improvements in health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and rural development, despite limited federal allocations.
He urged APC members in Osun State to remain united and support Oyetola’s bid for the governorship.
