The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday, said his administration aimed to create about one million direct and indirect jobs through the revitalised free trade zone initiative of the state government.
Adeleke said this while declaring open a four-day Osun State Industrial Investment Summit, held on the main campus of Osun State University, Osogbo.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Kola Adewusi, also said his administration was working towards Osun becoming one of the top 10 earners of Internally Generated Revenue in the country.
He called on investors, industrialists, and tourists, especially those in the diaspora to collaborate with the government to fast-track the pace of industrialisation in the state.
He said, “We want to accelerate the pace of industrialization because we are on a mission and that is why we have embarked on several initiatives across different sectors of the Osun economy.
“The revitalization of the Free Trade Zone which is planned to provide over 1,000,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people.
“My administration’s mission is to make Osun the preferred destination for investment, business, and tourism in the South West.”
He urged the participants to leverage the summit shaping the state’s development agenda in a bid to forge long-lasting alliances for mutual prosperity.
Speaking earlier, Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Bunmi Jenyo, said the summit has provided a platform for opportunities and strategic matching for stakeholders in the Osun industrial ecosystem to facilitate partnerships and investments.
According to him, the Adeleke administration has been deliberate in stimulating the state’s economy, building human capacities, creating wealth, and generating employment.
