Dr. Nsikak Akpan, a lecturer at Foreign Links College of Health Sciences, achieved a new world record for the longest marathon lecture on Sunday, delivering a 150-hour lecture.

Akpan’s endeavor, which took place on the college campus, was approved by Guinness World Records with reference number 240427100506lml. He broke the previous record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, set by Prof. Arvin Mishra of India in 2014, at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

The lecturer completed his goal of 150 hours by 2:30 p.m., prompting celebration among an audience primarily composed of students and journalists.

In an interview after the event, a visibly exhausted Akpan shared that he had faced a medical issue on Friday and had been hospitalized before resuming the challenge. “It took us two to three months to plan this,” he said. “When the incident happened, I didn’t consider quitting. I was prepared and kept going without dwelling on the situation. Once I was certified fit to continue, I returned.”

When asked about the challenges he faced, Akpan noted, “Some people thought we would not achieve this because of funding. But we succeeded without them. Challenges will always arise, but for anyone who wants to succeed, you must not let them deter you. Just keep moving forward, and you will succeed. I don’t feel tired; I feel like I want to continue.”
