Osun State Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke was officially enrolled as the Chief Creative Officer of the state on Monday, December 30, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the creative industries in the region. The announcement was made during the unveiling of the Adire Osun Festival logo and a live media interaction at the festival.
As part of the launch, Governor Adeleke logged into the Osun State Creative Data World Platform to begin the process of collecting data on local creatives. He urged all creatives in Osun to register on the platform for proper documentation, which he said would help position them for government support and patronage.
The unveiling of the festival’s official logo marked the launch of the state government’s initiative to boost the creative industries in Osun.
Tunde Laface, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s creative sector and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Creative Economy, Events, and Entertainment, emphasized the critical role creativity and entertainment played in Governor Adeleke’s rise to prominence. Laface called Osun’s creative industry the backbone of the Adire Osun Festival and expressed confidence that under Adeleke’s leadership, the event would transform the state into a hub for creativity and culture.
Laface also proposed that the Osun State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, pass legislation to make the Adire Osun Festival an annual event. Governor Adeleke, in his address, endorsed this proposal and announced that the festival would officially become an annual event starting in 2025.
Plans for the 2025 Adire Osun Festival include the launch of Adire Osun Ambassadors, an Adire Osun Fashion Couture, Omodan Adire, an Export Summit, and the Adire Osun Street Carnival. The festival will showcase the rich culture of Osun, with costumes and accessories for the carnival made from colorful, indigenous Adire fabrics.
