Osun Government Urges Federal Government to Provide CNG Centres, Vehicles

The Osun State government has called on the federal government to fulfill its pledge to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centres and provide CNG-powered buses to help ease the transportation challenges faced by residents amid rising petrol prices.

Barrister Kolapo Alimi, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Orientation, made the appeal on Sunday in a phone interview with The Nation. Alimi said that, despite the federal government’s promise, no CNG conversion centres have been set up in Osun, nor have the promised vehicles been provided to the state.

“There is no single CNG conversion centre in the state, and the federal government has not provided the promised vehicles,” Alimi said. “The only measure in place to ease transportation hardships is the Imole initiative, introduced by Governor Ademola Adeleke for workers, students, and residents. These vehicles are still operational, contrary to claims by some critics.”

The Imole initiative provides affordable transportation for state residents, particularly in the wake of the ongoing fuel price increases.
