The Osun State House of Assembly has introduced the Osun State Multi-Door Court Establishment Bill, 2024, aimed at reforming the state’s judicial system.
According to a statement from Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Adewale Egbedun, the bill, sponsored by Femi Popoola of the Boripe-Boluwaduro State Constituency, seeks to implement Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms. These mechanisms are intended to ease the burden on traditional courts and provide more timely and effective justice for residents.
The statement emphasized the bill’s potential to offer various dispute resolution options, including mediation, arbitration, and conciliation. Assembly members expressed their support, recognizing the bill’s ability to empower individuals to choose the most suitable resolution method for their circumstances.
“This initiative is designed to address the case backlogs that have long plagued the judicial system, fostering amicable conflict resolutions and contributing to a more harmonious society,” the statement said.
In his remarks, Speaker Adewale Egbedun underscored the bill’s importance, noting that it aligns with global best practices in judicial administration and reflects a commitment to modernizing the state’s legal framework.
“As Osun State moves forward with this initiative, we anticipate that the establishment of multi-door courts will lead to a more efficient and responsive judiciary, enhancing access to justice for all citizens,” he added.
Egbedun described the introduction of the bill as a significant step toward improving the region’s legal landscape, and stakeholders are optimistic about its potential impact on the community.
