The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State is calling for the dissolution of the state’s Executive Council, criticizing the performance of commissioners in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s cabinet.
The party’s demand comes just weeks before the midterm anniversary of Adeleke’s administration. In a statement issued by Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information, the APC argued that a cabinet reshuffle is necessary to bring in capable individuals who can contribute effectively to the state’s development.
“It is overdue for Governor Adeleke to dissolve his cabinet and inject vibrant leadership that aligns with his self-acclaimed vision for the state,” the statement read. “He should have the courage to choose his own team rather than relying on party nominations that prioritize patronage over qualifications.”
The APC criticized some commissioners for being ineffective and largely unknown, noting that many residents, including schoolchildren, struggle to name them. “We have never seen such obscurity in this state. Some commissioners have become like traditional farmers, using their positions for self-aggrandizement,” the statement continued.
The party emphasized that the time for change is now, as midterm evaluations are crucial for any administration.
In addition to calling for a cabinet reshuffle, the APC requested an audit of the number and identities of aides appointed by Adeleke. “It is our right to know who is on the payroll of the state, especially when some appointees have reportedly never even visited Osun,” the statement said.
The APC urged the governor to address these concerns or await a response from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government regarding the appointments. “Given the economic challenges facing Osun, it is concerning that the state has one of the highest numbers of political aides in Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
