The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has praised the appointment of Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
In a statement issued over the weekend by Moses Olafare, the Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ogunwusi congratulated Owoade on his emergence as the Alaafin-designate.
However, the statement did not address concerns raised by the Oyo kingmakers (Oyomesi), who have argued that Owoade’s appointment was illegal and did not follow the proper procedure.
Meanwhile, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, also extended his congratulations to Owoade. In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Adams described Owoade’s appointment as a “blessing” to Oyo and the entire Yoruba nation.
Adams expressed joy that the vacancy left by the death of the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi had now been filled.
