The Osun command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced the arrest of Afeez Adegbola, a truck driver for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), for allegedly diverting 10,000 liters of petrol.

Igbalawole Sotiyo, the NSCDC commandant in Osun, made the announcement while parading Adegbola and his two assistants. According to Sotiyo, Adegbola had loaded 40,000 liters of petrol at the Pinnacle Distribution Depot in the Eleko area of Lagos but delivered only 30,000 liters to an NNPCL filling station.

Adegbola was arrested on Friday at approximately 8:21 p.m. after the NSCDC received a tip-off that he was discharging the remaining 10,000 liters at the Tempola filling station in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Sotiyo stated that Adegbola confessed to the diversion, labeling the act as sabotage and theft against the state. “They are saboteurs and anti-state,” he said.

The commandant warned that anyone involved in the distribution of petroleum products who engages in sabotage would be apprehended and prosecuted. He called on NNPCL managers and supervisors nationwide to collaborate with the NSCDC in addressing these crimes.

“It is no longer business as usual,” Sotiyo added. “All criminally minded individuals in the state must change their ways or face the consequences. We will ensure that those involved are brought to justice.”

He confirmed that the suspects would be charged in court following the completion of their investigation.
