No Witch Hunt in Osun Mining Reforms, Governor Says

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has assured that his administration has no intention of targeting individuals or businesses involved in mining activities in the state.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum on Thursday, Adeleke emphasized that his government is focused on ensuring fairness and transparency within the mining sector.

Represented by Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the State Government, Adeleke acknowledged the complex legal and policy challenges facing the sector, noting that tensions often arise between state, federal, and community rights.

In related news, the state government issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the shooting of Moses Alowonle, a local park chairman. The statement, released by Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, described the incident as a suspected case of murder.

The statement alleged that Alowonle was shot in the abdomen by police officer Moses Lohor following his arrest over a domestic dispute. Alowonle is currently in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

A police spokesperson condemned the actions of Lohor, calling them “unprofessional, illegal, and unauthorized.” The officer and his colleagues have been moved to Abuja for further investigation.

The Inspector General of Police has ordered a thorough review of the incident, and the state government has vowed to ensure that justice is served.
