Indigenes of Ilobu, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area in Osun State, have called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to address the deteriorating condition of the Konda Comprehensive Health Centre, which serves several communities in the region.
The health centre, which functions as a secondary referral facility for Ilobu, Erin-Osun, and Alapupu, is currently in a state of disrepair, with only three nurses available to care for patients. The hospital has been rendered virtually uninhabitable due to rodent infestations and an unhealthy environment, and it has been without a doctor for nearly a year.
In a statement made during the 2024 Ilobu Day celebrations, Mr. Olufemi Salako, the National President of the Ilobu-Asake Development Union, described the situation as dire, making it increasingly difficult for residents of the area to access adequate healthcare.
“We are once again appealing to the Osun State government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, to intervene and rescue the completely dilapidated Konda Comprehensive Health Centre,” Salako said. “This facility is the only secondary healthcare centre serving thousands of residents in Ilobu, Erin, Alapupu, and surrounding communities.”
He highlighted that the deteriorating condition of the facility, coupled with the withdrawal of the only doctor last year, has compounded the health challenges in the area. “The state of the building is deplorable, and the lack of a doctor is putting immense pressure on the limited nursing staff,” he said.
Salako also reminded the government of another long-standing issue—the damaged Ilobu Grammar School Bridge—which continues to threaten the education of over 2,000 students who rely on the bridge to access their schools. Despite previous appeals for its reconstruction, the bridge remains in disrepair, and the situation is worsening daily.
“We appeal once again for urgent action to reconstruct the Ilobu Grammar School Bridge before an accident occurs and lives are lost,” Salako added.
While acknowledging the ongoing infrastructural projects in Ilobu under Governor Adeleke’s administration, Salako emphasized that this year’s Ilobu Day celebrations included a special medical outreach. In partnership with the Ilobu Platinum Lions Club International, the program provided free healthcare services, including the distribution of medicated eyeglasses to more than 550 residents.
“This year, we wanted to give back to the community, and our medical outreach was a success. We are grateful to the Lions Club for their partnership and to everyone who benefited from the programme,” Salako said.
The community continues to urge both state and federal authorities to take swift action to address their urgent healthcare and infrastructure needs.
