The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed concern over a confrontation between police officers and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

Reports indicate that an NSCDC officer, identified as Owoeye, was allegedly assaulted while on duty in an estate and subsequently detained by police. This incident sparked a dispute between the Osun Command of the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police Force.

In response, the Osun State government convened a meeting with security leaders to address the conflict. However, the Inspector General, in a statement released Saturday night by Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, condemned the incident as unprofessional and directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 11, Osogbo, to investigate the underlying causes.

Egbetokun stated, “The Inspector General expresses displeasure at the act of unprofessionalism and public display of division and has ordered a discreet investigation into the confrontation.”

He also referenced a recent press statement emphasizing the importance of cooperation among security agencies. “At this moment, I must stress the importance of esprit de corps—camaraderie, teamwork, and shared purpose,” he said. “It is essential for the successful execution of our duties that we honour and respect all colleagues and members of other services within the confines of the law.”

The Inspector General urged calm, reaffirming that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment in Nigeria.
