How Adeleke wasted Osun’s N700m on Ondo polls

By Jackson Idol

Facts have emerged about how about N700 million from Osun State Government was expended on the failed attempt to install Agboola Ajayi as the Governor of Ondo State in the recently held Governorship Poll in the state.

Adeleke, who was Ondo State until Friday preceding the election, it was learnt focused on Odigbo local government area, where majority of the inhabitants are farmers from Osun State.

According to checks by the medium, Odigbo to local government has the 3rd highest votes in Ondo State and candidates usually work hard to win the Council Area to boost their chances of winning.

However Adeleke huge financial commitment to winning the LG for Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ondo poll, ended up being a waste as many of those used to move the money to the area refused to release it to the voters.

Osun Governor, who reportedly got wind of the development on Friday preceding the last Saturday poll, it was learnt, left Akure in anger.

But many of his aides that accompanied him to Akure, it was further gathered stayed behind till Saturday evening when they moved out of Ondo, having realised they have been duped.

One of the aides, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told this medium that, “Oga (Adeleke) committed a huge amount of money into the project. Apart from the amount Osun Government donated to Agboola Ajayi campaign, a sum of N700 million from government was earmarked to buy votes in Odigbo for Ajayi.

“Oga (Adeleke) was given that assignment because majority of the inhabitants of the are from Osun. They are farmers and the local government has good population. But those that were given to us as agents that will move the money to the LGA, collected the sum and successfully moved it out of Akure.

“What we eventually discovered last Friday afternoon is that those that collected money from us didn’t share it Odigbo. The interesting part is that they could not be reached. That was how we wasted Osun money there without result.

“Ajayi relied on Oga (Adeleke) to win that LGA, but those we trusted duped us. It was a sad development,” the aide said.
