Alleged theft of several bundles of treated mosquito nets kept at the central store of Osun State Government in Osogbo and Ede town is causing rumpus within government circle, this medium has learnt.

A senior officer of Osun State Government who knew about the incident, said rough estimate of the stolen nets was put in the region of N100million.

According to him, some senior officials of Adeleke administration had already been quizzed by the police over the development.

He also said those quizzed by the police had implicated some senior members of the administration in the theft.

“I can confirm to you that the nets were stolen from the central store of Osun State Government in Osogbo and Ede town recently. The cost of the stolen nets was roughly put at over N100milion.

“The nets were donated to the state by donor agencies and they (the donors) are aware of the incident.

“It is the first time such an incident would happen in Osun State and some top officials of the Adeleke administration had been invited for questioning by the police.

“Those that were invited, in their statements at the police headquarters in Osogbo here, implicated some other senior officials of the government and the matter is becoming messier,” the said official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said.

Embarrassed by the development, the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was said to have directed full scale investigation into the matter.

It was also gathered that the donor agencies that brought the stolen nets to Osun were said to be threatening to discontinue their partnership with current administration unless the stolen items were recovered.
