An ex-convict who was recently granted clemency by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been remanded in custody after allegedly stealing a plasma television worth N600,000.
Omisakin Sunday, one of 53 individuals pardoned by the governor late last year, was arrested for the theft of a TV belonging to Damilare Shittu at his home in the Iludun area of Osogbo.
Sunday appeared before Magistrate Adeyeba Adekanmi of Osogbo Magistrate Court on charges of burglary and stealing, both punishable under sections 411(1)(2) and 390(9) of the state’s criminal code. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, opposed bail, arguing that Sunday had been serving a jail sentence before being pardoned by the governor. Adeoye also pointed out that Sunday’s first act after his release was committing another crime.
Magistrate Adekanmi denied bail and remanded Sunday in correctional custody until February, when the case will be heard further.
