A tragic fire in Akankan, Ede North Local Council of Osun State, claimed the lives of a Nigeria Customs officer, his wife, and four children early Monday morning. The fire, which reportedly started around 3:21 a.m., may have been caused by an explosion from a solar power device, though details remain unclear.
Tijani Kabiru, a Customs officer in his late 40s, his wife in her early 40s, and their four children, ranging in age from 3 to 10, died in the blaze. Only their 13-year-old son survived the incident.
The fire department responded to the distress call from the scene, located on a street named after the deceased officer. Olaniyi Ismaila Alimi, Director of the Osun State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, noting that teams from both the Ede Zonal Command and the Fire Service Headquarters in Abere worked to control the fire.
Alimi said the victims’ bodies were handed over to the A’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force. The incident has deeply affected residents of Akankan, who are mourning the loss of the family.
