An Osun State High Court in Ikirun on Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed against Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state government by the Ikirun kingmakers and Prince Yinusa Akadiri, a claimant to the Akirun stool.
Justice Segun Agboola upheld the legality of the state government’s White Paper, which resolved the ongoing dispute over the Akirun of Ikirun.
The plaintiffs had challenged the state government’s decision to annul the previous appointment process and called for a new selection procedure.
In 2022, the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola had approved Akadiri of the Oba-Ara Ruling House as the new Akirun of Ikirun. However, the Adeleke-led government later invalidated that appointment, citing irregularities in the selection process.
The state government subsequently issued a White Paper that annulled Akadiri’s appointment and recommended a fresh process for selecting the next monarch.
Following this, the Ifelodun Local Government, acting on the state government’s directive, instructed the next ruling house to submit a candidate or candidates for the stool.
