APC Expels Aregbesola for Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has expelled former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola for alleged anti-party activities.

The state party’s executive committee made the announcement in a letter dated January 7, 2025, and titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities—Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You.” The letter was made public on Wednesday.

The APC leadership accused Aregbesola of violating Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which outlines disciplinary actions for members.

The expulsion follows a recent announcement by the Omoluabi Progressives, a political group loyal to Aregbesola, that it would leave the APC. The group made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Sunday.

Aregbesola, who served as governor of Osun State before Gboyega Oyetola, reportedly fell out with the APC leadership in the run-up to the 2022 governorship election. He was accused of supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ademola Adeleke, who won the election, defeating incumbent Oyetola.

The expulsion letter stated: “After a thorough investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) reviewed the Disciplinary Committee’s findings and recommendations. The SEC resolved to approve your immediate expulsion from the APC. This decision was based on clear evidence of actions that undermined the unity and integrity of the party.”

Aregbesola was informed that he is no longer a member of the APC and is prohibited from representing or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.
