Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has re-assured the adhoc staff who received training and those who were actually engaged on the election day of due payment of their allowances. Reacting to some news on the social media that OSSIEC is owing adhoc staff, the Chairman of the Commission, Hashim Abioye Esq, stated that “OSSIEC is not owing 1.5 billion naira, it is a sponsored blackmail on the Commission as we did not know how they arrived at that outlandish Naira fugure”. Abioye blamed the delay in payment on the security siege laid on the Commission and its staff before, during and after the election. In his further reaction he said:
“Don’t forget our office was sealed up by the police. We have not been fully on ground since the elections held. The shortlisted adhoc staff who received training will be duly paid while those who made the final list and who were duly engaged on the election day will also be duly paid. We have given our genuine adhoc staff the assurance and they understand the situation very well. We have not really been having full access to the Commision’s premises and offices to enable us finish up our post election assignments a major part of which is sorting out our duly engaged adhoc staff”.
The Chairman then assured that in a matter of few days, payments will be effected after due administrative scrutiny. He enjoined the public especially those genuine adhoc staff not to be discouraged by sponsored news in the media aimed at that in a matter of few days, payments will be effected after due administrative scrutiny. He enjoined the public especially those genuine adhoc staff not to be discouraged by sponsored news in the media aimed at tarnishing the image of the Commision.
