Bowen University in Iwo, Osun State, has established a three-member committee to assist the police in identifying those responsible for the recent killing of a student.

The committee will work closely with law enforcement officials to investigate the death of a 200-level Computer Science student, identified only as Paul, who was stabbed last week.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed that an investigation was underway to uncover the identities of the assailants. Police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola said the incident was reported to the Iwo Divisional Headquarters on January 22, 2025, at about 10:55 p.m.

“On January 22, 2025, at around 10:55 p.m., one Akindoyo Joseph, Chief Security Officer of Bowen University, Iwo, reported to the Iwo Police Divisional Headquarters that Paul Thinker, a 200-level Computer Science student, was stabbed by unknown assailants,” Opalola said.

Bowen University’s Public Relations Officer, Havillah Sam Aliyu, praised the police for their swift response after the incident was reported. In a statement, Aliyu said the deceased’s family met with university management last Thursday, and although the campus atmosphere remains tense, there is cautious optimism for justice.

“Normalcy is gradually returning to the campus, though the atmosphere remains one of cautious hope as we await swift justice for the perpetrator(s) of this despicable act,” Aliyu said.

The university official also expressed confidence in the police investigation, noting that the management was pleased with the authorities’ professionalism.

“In response to the incident, an emergency Senate meeting was held on the morning of January 23, 2025, where a three-member committee was formed. This committee, supported by the university management, is tasked with gathering information and working closely with the police,” Aliyu added.

Additionally, the university has taken steps to bolster security on campus, including increasing personnel and coordinating with the police and other agencies to enhance patrols around the area.
