Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed astonishment that Garage Olode, a major town in Ifeland, has been without electricity for the past 15 years. He has directed the Ministry of Energy to address the issue promptly.

During a recent visit to the border town, Adeleke was briefed by the Imole Political Alliance, a group of local residents, who detailed the long-standing power outage affecting Garage Olode and surrounding villages. The governor called for a thorough investigation, highlighting the issue at the last State Executive Council meeting.

“We must do everything possible to restore power supply,” Adeleke said. “The ministry must work with the distribution company and the Federal Ministry of Power to find a lasting solution. Connecting Garage Olode and nearby communities to the national grid is crucial, given its significance as a major economic zone and border town.”

As an initial step, Adeleke plans to meet with the Federal Minister of Power in Abuja to discuss the completion of a nearly finished power project that has been stalled due to contractual issues.

“I will write to the minister ahead of my visit,” he stated. “We cannot let this project go to waste. If it’s almost 80 percent complete, the federal ministry should be encouraged to expedite the final phases. I am also directing the ministry to summon the distribution company serving the area to discuss the challenges and potential solutions for restoring power supply.”

Adeleke assured residents of Garage Olode and neighboring areas that his administration is committed to resolving the issue. “We have successfully addressed similar problems in Obokun. We will do the same for Garage Olode and beyond,” he added.
