Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that his administration is working on implementing a new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

Adeleke made the announcement on Saturday during the grand finale of the 14th convocation ceremony at Osun State University, held at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo.

He noted that his government is addressing challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidies, which have placed additional burdens on workers. The governor assured employees that measures are being taken to alleviate these effects, including the introduction of the new minimum wage.

“We are working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage. This is part of our commitment to mitigating the impact of recent economic changes on workers in the state,” Adeleke said.

The governor also emphasized his administration’s dedication to the growth of Osun State University, highlighting various initiatives designed to support the institution. Among these efforts, he mentioned the completion of an office complex at the Isale-Osun campus to facilitate health program accreditations.

“We have also supported the university in constructing its ultra-modern Anatomy Complex, which we commissioned earlier today,” he added. “Additionally, we have prioritized road construction leading to the student area at Sasha Market and other campuses.”

Adeleke noted that the state government had promptly paid a year’s arrears to staff members and provided palliative allowances to all workers.

He urged university staff and students to maintain peace and focus on contributing positively to the institution’s development. Adeleke also advised parents and guardians to continue supporting their children as they transition to new stages in life.

“The progress of this citadel of learning can only be sustained through a peaceful and harmonious environment. Let us avoid unnecessary rancor and focus on the common goal of advancing this great institution,” he said.

Earlier, Prof. Clement Adebooye, Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, expressed confidence that the graduates are well-prepared to contribute to the nation’s public service, economy, and global workforce.
