Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the immediate elder sister to Osun State Governor, Mrs. Dupe Adeleke, may have commenced consultations regarding her interest to seek Peoples Democratic Party West Senatorial ticket for Osun West.
The current Senator representing the West Senatorial, Lere Oyewumi, hails from Ikire, and he has not stopped telling whoever is interested that he would be seeking a return to the Red Chamber in 2027.
Oyewumi is currently the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate and he is considered the closest Senator to Governor Adeleke among those representing the State in the upper chamber.
Speaking under condition of anonymity, a source privy to Dupe Adeleke’s ambition, told this medium that, to secure maximum support for her ambition, she has visited many major stakeholders and traditional rulers in Senatorial District to discuss the project.
“It is true Yeye (as Dupe Adeleke is fondly called) is interested in going to the Senate in 2027. If you observe, she has been moving around to meet the stakeholders and traditional rulers.
“She was recently a guest to Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Rasheed Akanbi. The matter came up and that should be an indication she is serious about the project.
“Governor Adeleke doesn’t have any choice. She must support the project even though he is close to the current Senator, Lere Oyewumi. If you recall, Oyewumi was never the preferred candidate of the Adeleke’s for the West Senatorial when primary was held in 2022.
“The Adeleke’s supported Dr. Peter Babalola. But after Oyewumi had got the ticket through his strong connection within PDP fold, the family of the governor made up with him and since then, they have been relating well.
“This Senatorial ambition of Yeye is however threatening the peace between the first family and Oyewumi,” a mutual friend of the Adeleke’s and the Senator said under condition of anonymity.
